How Does the State Budget Affect Virginians with I/DD?

SUMMARY OF THE FINAL BUDGET BILL

  Thanks to the advocacy of people with I/DD, families, allies and advocates, we saw a number of major improvements to I/DD services in the final budget bill.  In sum, the budget provides more I/DD Waivers for families on waiting lists, increases reimbursement rates for Waiver services, eliminates cuts and expands crisis services and improves access to employment opportunities. The budget also reflects continued commitment to  transition to a community-based system and includes language directing the first closure of an I/DD state institution in Virginia’s history.
